Using solar panels for homes to supplement your electric can save you a ton of money. Not only will you be saving money every month, you can rest easy knowing you are helping to conserve the environment. The fact that you can use solar power for free and helps to improve the environment, makes you wonder, why are most homes utilizing solar panes? Good question, this is mostly because the upfront price for having solar panels setup at your home can be quite high. Let's take a better look at what I mean

Example The average electric bill for a single family home runs about $150 a month. Your average yearly electric bill will be around $1,800. After looking into using solar power to off set the cost of electricity, you decide to give it a try, but then you realize how expensive most of these systems really are.

Even at your cheapest price it's going to cost you between $2,000 and $4,000 to purchase your solar panel system and have it professionally set up and these are the base systems. These systems can significantly reduce your household electric bill, but in all likelihood won't get rid of it completely. What does all this mean for you bottom line, well it will take you approximately 4 years before you even begin to see any savings from your investment. But what if there was a cheaper way to achieve the same results.

DIY or Done Professionally There have been a lot of diy solar power systems floating around lately, most of them leave you wondering where to start, but there are a couple exceptions that are really very good. In all reality, setting up and installing your very own home solar power or wind power systems is extremely easy and cost effective, add in the fact that having it installed professionally will cost you a great deal more, diy solar power kits are a great option.

Great article, Jeff. Of all the technologies abundant in our great country, one would think that some day they would make them 'price' efficient for the blue collar person. Until they are, they won't be much good to the majority.
